⭐⭐⭐/5
DISCLAIMER: If you have a different opinion about the book, that's completely fine! Just please respect my thoughts.
“There are those who seek me a lifetime but never we meet,
And those I kiss but who trample me beneath ungrateful feet.
At times I seem to favor the clever and the fair,
But I bless all those who are brave enough to dare.
By large, my ministrations are soft-handed and sweet,
But scorned, I become a difficult beast to defeat.
For though each of my strikes lands a powerful blow,
When I kill, I do it slow... ”
― Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Thorns and Roses
This is a fantasy book about a mortal huntress named Feyre, who, on one of her hunts, kills a Faerie. As punishment for it, Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court, takes her to his home. This is a retelling of beauty and the beast.
QUICK NOTE: This first book doesn't have much, but the rest of the series has A LOT of inappropriate content even though most of it's books are labeled 'young adult'. Just a warning.
Characters:
Feyre was the average SJM protagonist. And she felt like Celaena was copy pasted into this book, then just a few of her personality traits were tweaked. But her character growth is so amazing to watch, and her personality is great.
Elain, Feyre's younger sister, doesn't seem important in the first book, but she is mentioned more in the later ones. She doesn't have any personality. At all. She's basically that kind loving little girl who likes to plant flowers.
Nesta, Feyre's older sister, again, becomes more important later on. A lot of people said they didn't like her and how cruel she was, but I thought that she was an interesting character to follow.
Lucien: I liked him. He was pretty funny and loyal and made this story much funnier.
Tamlin: I'm sorry. It physically hurts me to talk about him.
Plot: The plot was pretty good; it kept me engaged the whole time and I didn't get bored. But I hated how in one part of the book Feyre did something that no one else had done before. Even when very powerful High Lords tried, they didn't manage to do it. But Feyre did it. Because she is ✨speshul ✨There were also many cheesy moments and it was pretty predictable.
Worldbuilding: As always, Sarah J. Maas created an amazing world and I felt transported into it. I loved all the different courts and the tension between the Faerie lands and the mortal ones.
Relationships: I loved Tamlin and Feyre's relationship and it was so fun to wait until they got together.
If you know, you know.
Anyways, I really enjoyed this first book in the ACOTAR series (the other books get better), but I had some problems with it which is why I rated it a 3/5.
Great review!!! I agree on...well everything 😂
